My fiancé and I personally always talk about stuff before a drastic change (I'd consider changing my hair to purple a drastic change lol) because ya know, we like what we like and we both hate surprises. So for us we always talk about it before hand to make sure the other thinks it suits us (even though If we really wanted to we'd do it either way) BUT Don't get me wrong he handled it poorly.
