IUD falling out!???

So about two weeks ago I got the hormonal iud. Besides cramping, everything seemed fine. After each period you are supposed to check to make sure it is in place. However, when I checked I was able to feel the device itself. Then somehow between then and a few minutes ago the strings managed to start hanging out. I was supposed to go to an appointment for it today, but I cancelled because I didn't want to go while on my period. Now that I discovered the strings, I know that I should've gone. I know that they won't be able to get me in for at least a few days. Should I go to the emergency room?
