buying big baby items before the shower?

Would you buy the big items (swing, bouncer, rock n play so on) gentely used at a cheaper price so that at your shower people could buy more of the things you actually need? I don't mind gently used items & these toys these days are expensive! I'd rather receive clothes, diapers & other necessities.

I rather get all the big items from the shower and buy the small stuff on our own.

I'm glad I waited until after my shower to make any decision on big purchases. We got everything we needed & quite a bit of cash. We have only spent about $30 on clothes & that was just earlier on when I couldn't resist the urge to get our lil man something. I suggest waiting as well, just stash away some money for the items you don't get & would like to have.

I actually DON'T want to receive clothes or diapers lol. I don't know how big baby will be so I have some basics and am asking for a pack of newborn diapers. But it'd be nice if a few bigger items were purchased for my shower. Then I can go buy whatever smaller things I need. Plus, clothes are fun to shop for myself!! Keep in mind youll likely get clothes at your shower whether you asked for them or not

I've already bought all of the big things. I have a different taste to everyone else so I couldn't leave it up to them to get that stuff anyway. I'd rather receive small things, cute clothes etc as presents

The crib was purchased for us and we bought a travel system. My MIL went in on a changing table with us. And we started a stock pile of diapers and wipes, so for us the most expensive registry item was our $70 pack and play. That, a bouncer, and rock and play have been purchased from our registry.

Okay thanks ladies!! I think the only thing I'm gonna get early is this rock n play I've wanted FOREVER! The lady has a great price on it & I can't pass it up lol.
