When do we buy a car seat? I've heard that it's better to wait till after the baby is born and bring it to the hospital? Why is it not recommended to buy a car seat before baby is born?

You kinda need one before the baby is born or you won't be able to leave. No hospital will allow you to leave without a carseat, and no one will want to send their spouse or leave their baby to go buy a car seat. Buy it whenever you want, and just Decide if an infant car seat or a convertible one is the way to go. Both have pros and cons so it will be up to you and what will work best for your lifestyle and prefrence

I've never heard of waiting until after the baby is born to buy a car seat. That seems like a huge inconvience.  We bought ours around 27-28 weeks I think. I've heard not to install it early, in case you'd get into a car accident before baby is born, but I've never heard that it's best to buy a car seat after you deliver. You can't take the baby home if you don't have one. I'd say get one before you give birth!

Never heard that before. Here we normally order it with the pram months in advance but I see a lot of people saying they put it in the car in advance. I wouldn't do that. There's no point. And if you were to be in an accident it needs to be replaced.

If you are getting one that can just be picked up in stores you can wait a little longer, but if it's one that you have to order I'd say by 32 weeks just to be safe

I was gonna say the same....your baby can't go home unless you bring the car seat with you when you deliver. Last time I got my car seat at my shower, but this time I'll get one around 30 weeks.

That makes no logical sense...what good does waiting do?

You need to bring it to the hospital with you, cause some hospitals won't even discharge baby if you don't have one...

Definitely before baby is born as you need to get it correctly installed.. 
we're getting one soon and I'm only 17 weeks. (Trying to get the important stuff out of the way while I'm still able to shop!)

I registered for my car seat for my shower. But you definitely need it before baby is here

Buy one and install the base and just keep the car seat in your house until it's time to bring baby home
