Yellow gunk on baby's eye?

My LO is 11 days old and she has this yellow stuff around her eyes. Is this normal? Or do I need to take her to the hospital?

Answer

She has a blocked tear duct. If you have breast milk wipe her eye with it from the corner first with a cotton ball. If you don't have breast milk use warm salt water instead. This will keep her eye clear from infection. It can take up to two years for the blocked duct to open, but most open within the first 3 months.
