ER said Cholestasis?

Question

I was  sent to Labor and Delivery by my PCP due to having severe itching, no rash, for over a week. (No environmental changes) that my OB said was not pregnancy related so they wouldn't see me for it...

At the ER I had a doctor from a different practice that is really concerned about Cholestasis but she couldn't order the blood test for my serum bile acid because it's a send out test and takes 3-4 days for results so she ran a liver function panel and that came back fine. She is pretty mad at my OB for denying to see me so she called and my OB said they will test it in 2 weeks when I have an appointment no sooner... just wondering if anyone has had this and their their blood work came back normal and then the bile acid came back indicating you do have it? She brushed me up on it and since I had HELLP and Preeclampsia last pregnancy she feels strongly I could develop this.

I had cholestasis too. I think the bloodwork and bile acid test are different. Your bloods can be normal but in the bile acid test I think they check more your livers ability to break things down, so your bloodwork can come back normal and your bile acids elevated. I'm not in the medical profession so best to talk to your doctor or obgyn. I was in a public hospital if that matters but they didn't do the bile acid testing there and had to send it to a different lab so it took a couple of days.

I would definitely try and find a better doctor or someone who will test you. I was diagnosed with cholestasis at 24 weeks and have needed medication, weekly ultrasounds and will be induced 3 weeks early. If left untreated it could be potentially harmful for baby

I would be getting a better doctor because they can get the results imediately if they request it as urgent. I had mine withen the hour. I work in the medical field and its perfectly possible to obtain results same day withen hours. The doctors you are seeing are not good if they are stating its a wait for results on either test. I had my result in the hour and yes it was cholastasis. I am monitored and on medication for it now.
