How should electoral votes be awarded?

There are obviously many issues with the process for electing the next POTUS. The electoral college is one many have shown they have issue with. So what do you think should be done about the electoral college? Do you think it still does the job it originally was meant to do? Do you think it's still useful or necessary today? How do you think electoral votes should be awarded?

The number of votes a state has is based upon population. That's why California (a hugely populated state) has 55 electoral votes whereas Alaska only has 3.

If a person needs 270 electoral votes to win, what is the purpose of people voting? I honestly don't understand it. It appears that it doesn't even count. Presidential elections should be held like all other elections. The citizens vote and who has the most votes win. Simple. Get rid of the electoral shenanigans

It took me a while to understand, but the electoral votes are actually chosen depending on what the popular vote is, as well as the population of each state.

Watch this YouTube video that actually explains the electoral college and how it all works. It's actually a very fair system once you understand it. I'm surprised that high schools don't teach this stuff in government classes!

It was made because the founders thought that common men were stupid. It has no basis in a country were we claim democracy. If a president can win the electoral college while more Americans voted for something, then there is something seriously wrong.

It should be split by popular vote! Winner take all States make no sense.
If it's 51% candidate A and 49% candidate B then candidate it's only fair that is how the delegates are split up.

The electoral college is important and your vote counts. It goes by the popular vote in each state. The bigger the population the bigger the electoral votes you receive. This is a fair way & responsible. Just because people didn't get their way doesn't mean you throw temper tantrums and demand you have things handed to you.

What's the point in voting when it doesn't matter. I say let's make the electoral college go bye bye and base it off the people's votes! Or AT LEAST 50/50
