anybody else randomly skip periods?

I'm sexually active and on birth control. But often times every other or every few months I randomly skip a period! I take all my pills and take a pregnancy test too- yet my period just won't come. Has/does anybody else have this? It's bizarre to me and very stressful- I want it to stop but I don't want to stop birth control.
