Getting tested??

My boyfriend was the first person I slept with. He has slept with a great amount of girls before me. Most was without a condom. We've had sex without a condom a few times but I kinda wanna have him get tested and myself but I don't know how to bring it up. I am getting put on birth control next month too. Would they test me if I asked them too? How should I bring it up to him?
