Any teachers?

Question

I'm thinking about changing professions and was looking into teaching. What grade do you teach? Private school or public school? What do you love and hate about your job?

I'm not a teacher but I've been around and personally known teachers my whole life. My ex whole family was elementary education, his sisters family was middle school, my husband is a teacher, my best friend is a college professor, among many more, so as you can see, I've always been drawn to teachers. From what I've personally seen and been told, it's HARD work. Especially elementary education. You basically babysit 20-40 kids at a time, while trying to teach them and also instill values, while having your boss (the principle) and 40 other semi-bosses you always have to answer to (the parents) when you get off, you don't get to clock out and go home, you have to grade, make lesson plans, etc... you spend a lot of your own money for supplies if not enough was donated and speaking of money, teachers don't exactly have the best starting salary BUUUUTTTT, everyone says it's extremely rewarding. I teach elementary school and I don't recommend it. The demands of the job get more intense every year. It's way harder than when I started 12 years ago. I won't ever do anything else because of the time off, but it's definitely not easy.

No. Don't do it. At least not in Texas. This is my 4th year teaching and I'm miserable. I am constantly working, analyzing data, and not even spending most of my time teaching or working with the kids!

It is such a high stress job. After this year, I am considering quitting the profession and finding a new one.

It's extremely hard and emotionally and physically draining, but very rewarding. I've taught kindergarten and third in CA.

I'm not a teacher just yet but I'm going to school for elementary education which in Illinois is 1st-6th grade. I finish my pre-student clinicals tomorrow 😢 but it's a blast!! It's so fun teaching to the kids but it is hard work! Having to make lessons and have something ready for them at all times in the day but it's so worth the hard work! It's a fun job!

Do you have a degree in education? You need that along with teaching licenses. Many states require several different tests, and hours of student teaching to qualify. I'm not a teacher yet, but I've had several teaching opportunities through my university. Next fall, I'll be completing my student teaching and I'll be graduating.

If you have at least an associates, you can get a subistute license in most states. So, if you don't have a degree I suggest that.
