Baby is head down but facing my front and not my back...can I still birth vaginally?

Question

Went to the doctor today I'm 37 wks 4d and  he said if the baby stays in this position they would have to do an emergency c section😒 (in South Africa where I live c sections are the norm and vaginal births are few and far between). Does the baby facing the my tummy rather than facing my spine that much of an issue that it warrants having a c section? Is this just the doctor's way of just ending up doing a c section as it's more expensive and doctors benefit from a monetary point.

Please help out there esp, midwives and doulas or other moms in the know...thanks in advance.

You can still have a vaginal birth, but it can cause more back labor and pelvic pain. When you feel the baby move, you can get down on all fours and do the cat cow move for several minutes and that can make them flip. Many flip in labor too.

My baby is too ! And I just researched that most babies turn heads down durning labor! My doctor also said it just means more pain for you. Like back pain, back labor 😫 but she told me get on all 4 and arch my back and then curve said that helps baby turn.

I am almost 36 weeks and when I had my ultrasound the other day she told me my baby was facing my right side. She didn't say anything about it being a problem or having a c-section so I don't know about that. Maybe it's because you are a little farther along. I also didn't see the doctor after my ultrasound so she could say something when I go in Monday... hopefully baby will be facing the right way soon though so you don't have to worry about it.

Yes. But you'll might have horrible back labor. I was induced with my son and he was faced up the entire time. Pushed for 2 hours before the turned him, and pushed for another hour. I had back labor and it sucked.

My daughter was the same and I gave birth vaginally. 7 hour labour. It wasn't too bad, other then feeling contractions in my back instead of stomach

My first 2 babies were born sunny side up and it looks like this one will be too. My doctor said it's most likely because of the way my pelvis is shaped. It's true that the back labor was horrible, but I didn't need a c-section. Good luck!

If you can try and get a gym/yoga ball and get bouncing and rolling that pelvis! Encourage baby to change positions ☺️

Yes ma'am, you sure can, they said the labour will be harder and longer, and you will have back labour. And my god that is the worst. I had it with my first son. They said my little man was sunny side, then the next couple of weeks he was facing the right way.

My first son was sunny side up, and I had him vaginally. The worst part of it all was the back labor, I can't describe how that felt. Must babies will turn, we just had a stubborn one, who is still stubborn 7 years later. :)
