Discussing birth plan with OB?

Question

At what point did you discuss your birth plan with your doctor? Was there ever a point in which you asked what the doctor's beliefs are (in regards to induction, epidural, c-section), or made it clear what you want? I understand drafting a birth plan but is it actually useful? Do you discuss the issue with the hospital ahead of time, does your doctor notate it in your record ..?

My next appointment is Tuesday (33 weeks) and I'd like to know if I should bring it up then or wait.

You can bring it up any time I guess.
With #1, the only thing we said was if you are set on an epidural, you don't want to labor too long at home because they can't give it after a certain point and they do some blood tests before it. So when I was admitted, I told the nurses I want an epidural and I know I need those blood tests so if they can hurry up and take my blood 😅.

This time, in my first visit, I saw both a midwife and my OB. The midwife told me that the hospital encourages skin to skin for at least an hour and early breastfeeding which I told her I agree with. I told the OB after she did my scan (and saw that baby is measuring 4 days smaller) that I know I ovulated 4 days later than average so I think the baby might come late. She said possibly but babies come on their own time and that it's hospital policy to schedule induction if I go up to 41 weeks. I told her I'm perfectly fine with that as well.

There are a few things I want to bring up before I deliver though mainly her opinions about routine episiotomies and some of the details about the epidural. Just so we're all on the same page.

I personally do not like the idea of putting a detailed plan for my doctor. I am trusting her to apply her education and professional expertise to deliver my baby safely in the best way she sees fit. I wouldn't want her to hesitate before applying her best professional judgement because she's trying to follow my "plan".

I only really wanted a few things and they had a board in the labor room that they filled out when I got there. I wanted no meds, whirlpool time, skin to skin immediately after, breastfeeding and delayed clamping :)

Not with my first. When I went in to the hospital they asked me and nothing went to plan. This time around I have a better OB to the point that he's already asked me about breastfeeding. My birth plan? After my first son at this point as long as the after math is healthy baby and healthy mom is all I care about.

I haven't. With my daughter they didn't even ask till I was in labor. And allowed me to attempt it minus one thing. I wanted a walking epidural with my daughter and the hospital I had her at didn't allow that. So everything on my plan was allowed up until that. I walked the halls more than I was in my room and when I was in my room I was in the tub up until my epidural then I was stuck in the bed. This time I'm not 100% on what I want other than I don't want an epidural at all this time.

If been over it with my doctor seance I was 6 weeks we go over it completely and set up my c-section date at 29 to 30 weeks
