what are a couple reasons they might ask me to stay overnight?

You couldnt ask the doctor or nurse this question? Its surgery, its invasive and anything can happen.

Further testing of the results maybe? I would feel better then asking me stay if something was wrong your already in the best possible care in the safest place

I personally didn't stay over night. They let me sleep out my anesthesia which was probably 2-4 hours after my actual surgery, then maybe not more than 2-3 hours later I was released home. I wished I was able to stay overnight, I was in a lot of pain, but I also had an ovarian torsion, cysts removed and liquid drained.

I had laparoscopic surgery and I didn't have to stay overnight it's a small procedure. They make a couple small incisions on your belly area. I was out of the hospital within a few hours after surgery.

If they have to put a drain tube in, if you lost too much blood and they want to monitor you, surgeons prefrence, problems with the anaesthetic, problems with pain or post op vomiting etc

I had to. They pierced a hole in my womb. But it's fine as heals itself but they need to keep eye on u if it's that. Plus I got sent home with lots of antibiotics x

Precaution. When I had mine done in 2011, I had to spend a few hours in ICU and then 3 days in the hospital. Plus countless post op appointments. I originally had the lap done for internal bleeding. They had to fuse my right ovary back together. They said I had a liter of blood free floating in my abdomen and lost a bit more during surgery (hence my stay in ICU) the 3 day stay was to monitor blood levels. Good times. But I lived :)

Because it's surgery. You generally are going to need to stay overnight to make sure there are no complications from the surgery itself or the drugs used. I had laproscopic surgery last month and I had to stay overnight.
