What should I do?

Al
A few months ago I began having cramps consistently throughout the month, the same severity as they had been during my week long period before hand. They haven't gone away, and I'm not quite sure wether I should see a gynecologist or not. I've had a few issues with my period being off schedule and heavy, however it's nothing I would think of as overly concerning because I am 16. I'm afraid a gynecologist is just going to try and put me on birth control, which I am not comfortable with knowing the side effects. I know it's best to see a doctor if anything is questionable, but I'm not going to lie it's kind of scary to me.
Update: After seeing a gynecologist and finding nothing abnormal, I seen my general practitioner and after testing learned I have a gluten intolerance. If you're struggling with regular cramping, gastrointestinal illnesses are also something to ask a doctor about.
