I like it, but I totally understand where you're coming from. It's the same reason that I didn't want to name our baby (if he had been a girl) Abigail. I hate Abi (Abby). Our plan was to call her by her middle name. I'm having the same trouble with our boy name Bryan Anthony (grandfathers'/husband's middle names).

I do love the name Gerard though.

You could always call him by his middle name! I love it. I think it's really masculine.

Yeah, you may have trouble calling a baby boy or todler Gerard, but you're naming him for the man he will become. I think it's a strong and professional sounding name. You'll come up with a nickname for a little tyke that you're comfortable with that sounds more child-like. My brother still gets called Boo-Boo by my mother at 28 years old because she hated calling her baby "Ben"
