can you hear the heartbeat at midwife appts?

A woman at work was telling me that she heard her baby's heartbeat at every midwife appointment, is this right? I thought they only could do it through a scan 🙈 how many weeks do you need to be for it to work?

Mine started at 18 weeks. They use the doppler and also start measuring your fundus around that time. Every appt after that is the same. Listen to heartbeat and measure fundus.

We hear ours at 12 weeks and now every 4 weeks we hear it

If you're in the UK she won't try listening for the heart beat until 16 weeks earliest, even then some won't listen until the appointment after that. If they can't find the heartbeat it causes unnecessary worry so that's why some won't listen at that appointment xx

I could find my own baby's heartbeat at home with the same Doppler they use at my appointments at 9 weeks. It's possible
