endoscopy?

Had anyone had it and for what? How long were you out under? And did you feel sick when you woke up (I'm worried about that)?!

I have had the esophagogastroduodenoscopy. I had it done for abdominal pain. It depends on the hospital you go to in regards to sedation/anesthesia. I had whats called moderate sedation administered by a nurse. I was completely asleep and dont remember any of it but was able to wake up immediately after. I was groggy/forgetful most of the day, but completely fine the next day. Basically for the procedure they put a bite block in your mouth to protect the scope and your teeth, then they sedate you, then a scope is guided down through your esophagus, into your stomach and then into the small bowel. They use air to visialize everything better. Usually they will take biopsies with tiny forceps introduced through the scope, but you wont feel that.  Hope this helps! I am a nurse in surgery but i also do sedation and work in the endoscopy room.

I've had 2. First one I don't know how long I was out the second one was this last September I was out for like 10 minutes and woke up a little fuzzy then was perfectly fine all day
