Alcohol at wedding?

Just curious we haven't even had the discussion about this yet but wondering what yall would do.
I am marrying the preachers son in 2017 :) we are baptist, drinking is NOT okay. We are Christians and we don't drink.. we may occasionally have a night with a beer or two on a special occasion but we aren't drinkers.
A lot of our friends have been asking if alcohol is gonna be at our wedding.
We aren't going to provide any alcohol, but some people have asked if they can bring it.. should we allow this? I'm not really sure how to go about this situation. We are okay with our friends drinking. . It's not like we can stop our friends from doing whatever they wanna do in their personal life anyways.
So.. yes to BYOB or no?

*I feel I should also note (I'm sure I'll be judged.. but that's okay) I will more than likely have some alcohol to drink as we are getting ready for the wedding and getting dressed and such.  I may even have some wine as our toast drink. So is it hypocritical for me to drink and not allow anyone else ??

Yes you should allow it. If you're against it then don't drink. But you did say that a drink or two is ok and this seems like a very special occasion, go for it!

I think it's a little weird to tell them not to bring alcohol but you plan to do a toast and drink alcohol and most likely your guests will be asked to raise their glasses too. I'd cut it completely or do BYOB. We offered two mixed drinks and beer but anything else people could bring in. We had no drunken people issues. It was a fun night and no one was hauling in cases of the stuff to get trashed on. Most brought a couple wine coolers and some wine.  You know your guests the best. Do you foresee drunken behavior being an issue?

I have no opinion on whether or not you should allow it, but do be careful about the rules of wherever you're having the reception. Many places charge an extra fee if outside alcohol is brought into the location.

It is hypocritical to have wine for you and nobody else. If you're having toasts why not provide 2 bottles of wine per table (one white and one red). That's what many weddings and parties do. If that's the only alcohol provided you shouldn't have a problem. Just have the MC explain that the wine is to be saved for toasts and that there will be no replenishing of the tables.

We had to have this very conversation for my brother in laws wedding. In the end we ended up providing some alcohol that way we could control the amount that was being consumed.

You can have your caterer provide X amount of drinks or have it by time. For example at my wedding we had the venue for 5 hours, including ceremony, but only had the open bar for 3 hours until 11. If people wanted a drink after 11, they had to pay for it. My brother ended up buying cases of wine and that's what he served at his wedding, if people wanted something else, theyhad to pay for it.

My OH is Muslim so alcohol is a definite no. However I am Christian and so will many of our guests be. What I think is best for us is to put a note on the invitations that due to religious reasons some people will not be drinking and ask people to behave respectfully. I'd put a small amount of money behind the bar and let anyone who wants to drink buy their own.

I've been to several dry weddings, and every time, without fail, people snuck in alcohol, and at least twice they got the groom (who rarely drank) totally hammered.

If you dont want drunk people at your wedding but want to respect either your friend you could do a cocktail with a small amount of alcohol. With this you will have the countrol of the amount of alcohol at your wedding and you'll be sure nobody will be to drunk. I think it could be a right balance.
