Vicks VapoRub

My 11.5 month old has a nasty cold and her cough at night has been terrible. We called the pediatrician today to see if there was something we can give her. They said to rub Vicks VapoRub on her chest and/or feet and run a humidifier. I did that and put her to bed. She's asleep, so far no coughing. Now I made the mistake of googling baby colds, and it says online not to use it on babies under 2, but to get a baby version instead. I had NO IDEA they made a baby version, and the doctor never said get baby rub or anything like that (they just said Vicks VapoRub, and that's all I saw in the store). Should I go wash it off? My husband thinks she's fine, and I'm nervous that I'm harming her.  I don't know if I should wake her up to clean it off, or if it's fine for one night and let her sleep.
UPDATE: I got her up and washed it off her with soap and water. I just put her back to sleep. I wish I would have known that there was a baby version before putting it on her. Hopefully the half hour or so it was on didn't do any harm.
