should I be worried about being induced?

My mom always makes me second guess my decisions. She was telling me my labor is going to be hard because I'm getting induced 2 days before my due date. My doctor said that mothers who have their baby by 39 or 40 weeks have the best apgar scores, lower c sections rates, and lower meconium rates as well. I was planning on waiting until after my due date to be induced but after I talked to him he pretty much talked me into going in on the 19th because I am already dialated to 4 centimeters. Should I just ignore my mom? I know she has my best interest in mind but it's freaking me out.

I'd let it happen naturally unless there's a concern with getting the baby out.  His reasons sound silly.  Does he need the baby to come out early so he can go on vacation??

Is there a reason you're being induced?  If you're already at 4cm, it sounds like your body is getting ready :)

If it means anything I was induced at 41+1. Apgar was 10, I delivered vaginally, and no meconium. You're already at a 4!! Your body is well underway for you to go into labor on your own! Trust your instincts but you don't HAVE to be induced yet. I was induced because they thought my lo was huge and she was 7 lbs 11 oz!

I wish I was induced and left it alone.  Don't let your doctor force you into something you don't. If you are already 4cm I would say your body is doing it naturally

Inductions are proven to have higher rates of needing a C section

Inductions CAN sometimes lead to more interventions. Not for everyone, but for some. One drug can lead to another which can lead to more... And the snowball effect can make interventions more likely.

That being said, if your doctor has good luck with inductions and you feel comfortable and confident. No one should tell you differently! It's your birth and you get to experience it in the way that works best for you and your baby. We are all different!

I was just induced a week ago yesterday and while it was def my most painful labor it also went the quickest, was the easiest, and I had no pain meds whatsoever because I refused the epidural and was allergic to the two pain meds they offered through iv. I would honestly not worry about it if your doctor isn't concerned

Extra details: I have 3 doctors, they switch shifts at the hospital so somebody is always on call so I know his reasons aren't for vacation. He has completely left the choice up to me but told me if he were me he would set the date to be induced. All three of the doctors have told me that they have the best stats for women who deliver at 39-40 weeks.  He told me I have a favorable cervix already being dilated. I felt fine about everything until my mom told me she thinks I should wait but she is also a total hippie about doctors and believes in self curing and all.

Moms always freak out about induction. Lol. That's a decision for you and your doctor. It's not the 80s any more :)

I'm a first time mom but a lot of people that I know that have been induced tell me that it makes the contractions much worse. I personally would avoid being induced.. especially if you aren't even at your due date yet.

You should not be induced unless for medical reasons! Your body is got this, don't let medical "science" tell you what your body knows how to do on it's own. I worked for an obgyn for many years as a RN and it is not necessary and doesn't give you better result, your baby will be ready when it is don't rush it. If you want drink some raspberry leaf tea to help labor along naturally.
