Progesterone before birth control

Hi! So my gyno gave me progesterone to take a few cycles before I start birth control and she said after the first round, my period was going to be horrendous. So I wasn't expecting to bleed until I was done with the first round. But after taking it for two days I started having brown discharge, light bleeding, and cramping and this is still happening. I was just wondering if this is normal??
