Taking newborn out

My MIL keeps pressuring to take my 10 day old out. She wants to go visit a friend of hers that's 90 and on her death bed ( I've only met the woman once) and wants to go to a restaurant she frequents to show her off for dinner. I'm barely comfortable nursing at home yet, I don't have a cover and I didn't pack the carrier because I never thought we would go anywhere. Not to mention the germs... am I being a paranoid freak or what? The kid is only 10 days old. But I don't want to be a stick in the mud if it's normal.
