pregnant with periodontal disease?

My gums have been terrible since before I was pregnant . It's heredity and my aunt, my grandma and great grandma eventually loss their teeth and got the fake dentures . I've been to the dentist and they've told me there's nothing they can do until after the baby's born because they have to put me to sleep for a really deep cleaning . My gums are receding and I think eventually I'm going to lose my teeth . I'm worried about the health of my baby as well, we're they right by saying they can't do anything? Will my baby be okay?
