engagement or promise ?

Me and my boyfriend picked out a ring the day before Christmas and kept saying this is a promise ring but since it was so expensive he said whenever we decide to get engaged we will use the same ring.
Well on Christmas in front of my family he was already kneeling down when I opened the ring and he said "since I'm already on my knees (he paused took a sip of beer) this was supposed to be a promise ring but.... will you eventually marry me? And fuck a promise I WILL take care of you and our son forever" (I am currently Prego) he later posted this pic on his fb and everyone is congratulating him and I'm still confused like is this really an engagement?! Or is it still just a promise ring ?! He hash tagged it it with #keepingmypromise

Why don't you ask him about it, I know that may be weird but ask him in a way that doesn't seem so weird. Some examples might be:
"Hey babe, I've been thinking about the ring. I was wondering if it was still a promise ring or if we skipped that and it's an engagement ring?"
"I've been thinking a lot about what you said when I opened the ring and was wondering if we are engaged now?" This might seem kinda straight forward but sometimes you have to be.
"I've been a bit confused about what kind of ring this is, is it a promise or engagement ring? I know you said something about marriage when I opened it but I'm not quite sure." Also another direct one. I'm a straight forward person, I feel like a somewhat direct approach might be better, if you're really confused.
