How many days of missing your period is the best time to take a test?

Yeah it depends because when I got pregnant although it ended in a miscarriage at 6weeks I didn't test positive until the day my period was due and even then it almost looked like a dye run but I knew it wasn't the next day I retested and got a faint faint positive then took the digital pregnancy tests and got a positive

The day of is usually the best 
I tested 4 days before and still received a positive 
It has a lot to do with the fact that everyone is truly different (:
