Once you have cut all ties (emotionally and physically) then it is a matter of a judge making it final. I know people that had their ex's do anything and everything to drag the divorce out. Why should you have to give up 4 years of your life bc they want more money?

I say yes! But let's also say it depends what side you are on.

I'm dating a guy. He filed for a divorce. He has a child. Tells me I need to keep our relationship a secret because his wife will be spiteful when it comes to custody to the child. I believed him. Found out last week he's been sleeping with her the ENTIRE time. She now knows about me.

Oh, and I'm 15 weeks pregnant.

Nothing should have to be a secret. No one deserves that.

My husband was set on divorce. We were separated for six months. He "dated" 2 "lovely ladies" until he realized I was done working on my end and moving on, (especially since involving other people was never in the agreement for working on us.) The lies he told those girls about me...

...But he came back and turned his habits and life around and we started chapter two of our marriage. It was the most difficult thing to wrap my mind around. I'm sure those girls were thinking 'wtf' after all the shit he talked about me.

One of my best friends had this happen twice. They both went back to their wives. Case in point, in Texas, you're married until the ink has dried on the divorce decree. They don't even recognize separation. It's all or nothing. Life can have some last minute plot twists. With marriage, it ain't over til it's over and even then, a piece of paper doesn't dissolve emotions.

If you're going to get involved with someone going through a divorce, or even a separation, be prepared for them to suddenly have a change of heart, or to realize they're going to stop distracting themselves with others. Sorry, but marriage trumps whatever other relationships develop after.

I do see the other side. If your marriage is more than dead and you've already healed them go ahead and date. I know some have taken years...but, my friend's guy "friend" seemed to be in divorce purgatory with his ex for years--he did end up getting back together with his wife. No matter what side you're on, please protect yourself emotionally, financially, and sexually.

I think in certain situations it is perfectly fine.

My SO and I started dating about 6 months after he and his ex wife separated. I knew his story and all about his marriage since my bestfriend was friends with his ex when we were in highschool. EVERYONE told me that he'd go back to her without knowing their story and ours.

She constantly cheated on him, blew his money, and had a steady boyfriend before they separated. They finally got a court date and she asked him if his mom knew he was dating someone while he was still married.. Granted her parents still don't know that she was cheating on him and doing all kinds of drugs while they were married. Two years later and we are as happy as can be, planning our wedding and going to start TTC soon (:
