How to talk TTC
The below above will be crystal clear to anyone active in the trying to conceive (TTC) community.
“11DPO, mild cramping, CM almost spotty, IB???? Waiting irritably for AF. I think DH hates 2WW as much as I do.”
We know. It seems like gibberish to the rest of the world. So, please allow us to translate!
The writer is a woman who is trying to have a baby. She is 11 days past her ovulation. She is experiencing minor spotting, which she hopes is implantation bleeding but fears that it probably is just a precursor to her period – aka Aunt Flo. And her husband, frequently called “Darling Husband”, hates the uncertainty of the “2 Week Wait” before she can test for a pregnancy, almost as much as she does.
Many couples find that they do not want to discuss their struggles with fertility with friends and family in real life. However, the burden is too much to bear alone. That’s why so many of us turn to the communities, such as the vibrant one on Glow, to share our hopes and disappointments.
Online we can share the most lurid details of our respective fertility journeys, comparing and contrasting, supporting and commiserating. Online we can lay down our grief and joy amidst a tapestry of loss and miracles, grateful in the knowledge that we are not alone.
Such a personal conversation, by its very definition requires, its own language. So here are some keywords you should know as you jump into the warm embrace of the Glow Community:
