Can a doctor refuse to check to see how dilated I am?

Question

I have my 37 week appointment tomorrow morning and they are preforming my strep b test. I was hoping they would see if I am dialated at all too but they haven't mentioned it. I see a midwife if that makes a difference. I was wondering if I asked tomorrow to be checked is that something they would refuse to do?

I'm sure a doctor can refuse anything they want ... but perhaps it's just not part of their practice unless your actually in labor. 
My doctor does not check at routine appointments - only once you are admitted to the hospital to deliver.

There really is no point to it. I suppose they can refuse just like you can refuse. Seriously though, dilation right now will either just cause concern on your end or unnecessary excitement lol. You could be closed up until late or hits or you could slowly dilate until full blown labor hits.

They checked me at my 36 week and they check me each week. Totally up to the doctor but I don't see why they wouldn't if u asked. But don't get hopes up. U can be 1cm for weeks or 1cm and go into labor tonight.

Some doctors won't do it until your in labor or passed your due date because the more checks you get, there's an increase in getting an infection.

I'm not sure about midwifes but my doctor starts checking every week starting st 35-36 weeks. And if I ask, they always try to accommodate my wishes. I don't understand why not all doctors do. It doesn't take long to check. Better to be safe than sorry. However my doctor also allows his patients to opt for induction at 39 weeks if they want.

I think most don't do it unless you ask. Also, since it's a midwife they are usually more about not interfering or disrupting anything and just being more natural. I don't think there is much point in it anyway because you may not be and get disappointed, but things can change really fast at any time.

They didn't start checking me till 39 weeks. We asked at 38 and they said it wasn't necessary, they were still willing but decided to wait if it didn't make a difference. Sometimes you can dialated a centimeter or two but go back. It's not important till you're in labor or closer to your due date
