Four month old up to nurse ever 90 min to two hours

My four and a half month old started waking up all night long and won't sleep without eating. It's currently up to five times a night. He has been falling asleep on his own since two months and I put him in his crib awake every time. Has this happened to anyone and did it pass on its own? Nothing else seems to work. He wakes up seven or eight times and I only have fed him five times. The others I just let him fuss and he goes back to sleep within fifteen or twenty minutes.
