Labor any way I want??

Question

Will I be able to labor in any positions or will they have me lay on the bed? I really want my body to do whatever it wants to do, like squatting with gravity helping pull baby out sounds a hell of a lot better than trying to squeeze baby up and out on the bed.

If you demand it you can labor anyway you want. Even if you don't want the monitor on you. They can intermittent monitor baby's heart rate. They don't need to put the monitor on you unless you get an epidural or other pain meds. Trust me, they are super uncomfortable when you're having contractions. I didn't want anything on me.

Have to ask your hospital, mine allows whatever unless/until you get an epidural then you can't move around.

My hospital will pretty much let you do what you want! Maybe take a tour of the maternity ward at yours to see, though I bet it's similar :)

As long as you don't get an epidural you can deliver how you want IF they have the tools available. You need a squat bar to deliver standing up.

It depends on where you are delivering and your doctor. If you are high risk most doctors will want you a certain way to minimize risk. Most birthing centers want you to do whatever you need to help yourself get the baby out while hospitals are sometimes more strict. A lot of places though will confine you to the bed once you are dialated enough

I was able to do whatever I wanted. If you have an epidural, you will be restricted.

Ask your doctor what the hospital policy is. Mine allows you do what you want as long as you don't have an epidural. You're stuck on your back in bed if you get an epidural.
