Painful sex???

I have had sex multiple times in the past but haven't for about a year now. I tried having sex yesterday but it hurt too bad and we had to stop. It has always been kind of painful and it really turns me off to the idea of having sex at all. Does anyone else experience this or have any advice?

Well me and my boyfriend were both virgins when we had sex. We've had sex now twice, and it still kinda has a burning sort of sensation when he first puts it in then I get used to it. I'm not super educated in sex but my guy is really thick so maybe that's the thing? Also you said you hadn't had sex for a year so most likely your body isn't used to it anymore and just needs to be broken in again. How I cope and make it more enjoyable for me is start out in missionary and pull my legs closer to my head so the pain isn't super intense, i think that position helps open your vagina more. Then have him do his thing for a bit in that position and you should be semi used to him and you'll be able to do other positions. This is purely my experience so I'm not sure if it'll work for you too, but good luck ! (Oh and maybe use lube ? Perhaps your not lubricated enough? Just a thought)
