Contractions !! How does it exactly feel like ?

37+2 weeks today. From last evening I am feeling this sharp 3-4 seconder pain every 4-5 hrs. Is it what we call contractions or something els. Am I very close to labour or is there something to worry about !! Plz suggest guys! Feeling uneasy and restless. Want to wait till 12th at least..my birthday:-(

For me, my contractions started as a light period cramping kind of feeling. Over the course of the day they became sharper and more severe. By the time it was time to leave for the hospital, when a contraction came along it would stop me and I'd be doubled over, trying to breath through it until it passed. They feel different than normal pregnancy pains.
