Breastfeeding after breast reduction?

Question

Are there any moms out there who have had a breast reduction and were still able to breastfeed afterwards? Or know someone who has? If so, what were the challenges? I've had two doctors give me differing opinions and it's something I'm so hoping to be able to do.

You really should be able to. Women with tiny little breasts are still able to breastfeed completely fine so it's not a matter of needing lots of breast tissue. As long as you have some breast tissue and the remaining ducts are undamaged you'll be able to breastfeed without any problems.
Join your local breastfeeding association and speak to a lactation consultant well before you are due to have your baby. Have her (or him!) visit you within 24 hours of giving birth and again as often as you need until you've established your milk supply. It can take up to 6 weeks (sometimes longer for some women) to establish a good supply and be comfortable. 
Don't start supplementary feeding with formula. The second you start doing that it will be a slippery slope to not producing enough milk. The more your baby sucks on your breast, the more milk you'll produce! Often my babies (I've had 4) would have marathon feeding sessions and want to feed constantly for 24 hours or so. It's great for boosting your supply and is NOT a sign of poor milk supply. It's usually baby preparing for a growth spurt 😃

I have heard it can happen,  i had a friend who tried after giving birth and she wasn't able too,  she doesn't think she was producing enough milk.  All you can do it give it your best try!!  Good luck!
