boy help

there's this boy that i've been talking to for a few weeks & we've hung out a few times. we're really flirty & on new years even we kissed & throughout the night, he would kiss my forehead & everything. he walked me out that night but he didn't with anyone else. he hugged me everytime i saw him & he acted like we were a thing but we never confirmed it before. his best friend said by the look of it, he really likes me because he only treats me like that so he's being loyal. yesterday i told him that i liked him but i don't wanna waste my time if it's going to lead to nothing & he said "yeah i guess" & i told him i wanted to knownat that moment because people are saying shit & he ignored the first part of what i said & only reaponded with asking what people were talking about & i said him & he left me on read the next day. we talked a little bit today but no where near what we normally do. i feel like i messed things up & i don't know what to do. i'm so confused
