PCOS and Birth Control

So last month I found out that I have PCOS (poly cystic ovary syndrome) & that I have too much testatrone in my system. Btw I was on my period, very heavy period for an entire month!!!!!!! So my doctor put me on birth control so as of now I'm having a normal cycle. How long should I be on BC? I would like to try & conceive pretty soon. I'm thinking 2-3 months to get my hormones back balanced.
