For those who pump...PAIN?!?

Don't want to re-write my question so here is a screenshot from Glow. I figured this group would be more appropriate! Any advice would be most appreciated!

The more you do it, the less it hurts. I have extremely sensitive nipples, but realized that each time I do it, it hurts a tad bit less. It'll take some time getting used to, but don't give up 😊

Are you using the correct size shields? Could also put cream on your nipples prior

I discovered I must have nipples of steel when I had my daughter. Pumping never hurt until she started chewing on me at night, so I was lucky overall. I did use a different size flange than the ones that came with my Medela. I had a friend who was already pumping by the time I was about to pop and I was able to "size myself" with one of her flanges. When I did have soreness down the road I used a nipple butter or soothie pads to help soothe them between sessions. Also pay attention to the level of suction you start out with. If you start too high you will hurt yourself. Once they get hurt it's going to be a while before they heal since you will be pumping with injured nips.

It could possibly be the flange that is causing u the pain instead of the suction itself. My pump comes with a 24mm flange but I personally need a 27mm or 30mm for it to not cause as much pain. For now I use lanolin on my nipples (so my nipples won't become chapped) and coconut oil around n inside the flange to take it have less friction

I had that issue with my ameda pump. I got the spectra s2 and I have zero pain now. I recommend it!!!

I hate my medela pump because I think it's painful as well. I have a spectra S2 and it's so much better! If you try a different shield size and that doesn't fix your problem you may want a different brand pump.
