Representation for people of color in Hollywood has always been and continues to be a topic of controversy. Some argue that it doesn't matter that Hollywood is no where near as diverse as the actual world because it's all fake. But is it? What are your thoughts on the issue?

OF COURSE REPRESENTATION MATTERS. Everyone deserves to be able to watch tv and movies and see people who look like them and be represented. All colours (and genders, and relationships, etc) need to be on tv equally.

Honestly growing up, I didn't look at the color of people's skin on TV. It's not because I don't see color, but because it wasn't a deciding factor on what I watched. Still isn't. I think it's important to show the diversity of the world in movies and TV, and Hollywood is still working on that. Hollywood has never been perfect in any way, shape, or form. But with as diverse as America is, it's frustrating to see certain castings happen. Like the Nina Simone movie. I didn't see it, but why the hell would you cast someone who couldn't even properly represent someone? They had to darken her skin. Why not just cast a darker skinned person? Or people with real accents. With real roots in the character they're portraying. It's possible to do these things. It'll just take time like everything else in America.

Hmm I feel conflicted on this subject. If the movie is fictional I could actually care less. I feel as a individual it's your duty to find what represents you.

However, if your making films about history, please be HISTORICALLY CORRECT. Egyptians and Jesus Were BLACK. Stop lying to the masses. TWATS

Also the history and culture of blacks people did not just begin with Slavery. I'm so tired of seeing those movies🙄🙄🙄😒😒😒.

Please Hollywood, find another angle to please the black audience. How about the Benin Empire or Ghana Empire or the Ethopian Empire. It's majority either slavery or ignorance and I'm tired of both.

Representation matters. I was raised in a very racist household and as a child remember being shocked to see people of color on TV because I was taught they were different, bad, and I couldn't believe they could actually be on TV.. I also grew up in a small town, only 1 black girl in my school. I never knew that what I was being taught was different from anyone else. When I got into high school, I realized that what I was being taught at home was exactly the same as what everyone else was being taught. Racism is still a huge problem, and maybe that can be changed by the media, it really made an impact on me as a kid, so who knows.

I think the fact of the matter is that representation most definitely matters for everyone. I can think all I like about it but it still matters.

Yes. Especially when it comes to live action adaptations for anything. Take Ghost in the Shell, for example. The main character, Motoko Kusanagi, is a Japanese cyborg. With a Japanese name. Living in Japan. But they cast Scarlet Johansson to play as her. And used the excuse "well she's a cyborg so she can be any race she wants" which is BS since white should not be the default and the character is not an actual living breathing person who can "decide to be white".
