Racist prof....???

Guys I have a dilemma. I just started a new class and the prof is really confusing me. He is very "woke", clearly a feminist, gay, anti trump, ranted about mansplaining and manspreading for a good chunk of class. This is all mildly annoying but he has also made a few racist comments. He keeps imitating an "ethnic" voice, natives, trying different languages he doesn't actually now. Half the time he is super funny but then racism comes up again and everyone is super visibly uncomfortable. In my degree we talk a ton about racism and social norms. So I can't tell if he is testing us and I should call him out? or if he is actually doing that.... I'm gonna send him an email either way buuuut someone help. Gracias.

Yikes, just out of curiosity what class is this?

I learned early on in college that profs often mix in their personal thoughts with facts. Sometimes I agreed sometimes I didn't. My favorites would at least acknowledge their own bias.

Anyway, I'd shoot out an email, that way you have written proof if you need to address it further. I'd probably write something like,

Professor X, I really enjoyed your lecture (on whatever topic). The part about (whatever) really made me think things through. I did have one concern I'd like to bring to your attention. When you did that imitation it made me uncomfortable. It reinforces some pretty negative stereotypes, and I'd challenge you to address that, as you challenge us.

If you belong to the group he was mocking I'd add a sentence about that as well.

I'd also avoid explicitly calling him a racist or using that term at all. At least at first.

If you can coordinate a few students to email similar things that would help.

If he acts like an ass about if forward all the emails to the head of the department.

I would be more concerned that he is eating your time talking about mansplaoning and his sexuality-does he just not want to do his job?

If he's wasting your time I'd say something to the dean of the department. I had a professor who spent the first two days of class telling personal stories and not teaching ANYTHING. I contacted the dean of the department who put me in contact with an assistant dean/ his boss and he handled it. The professor even asked the class about it because he complained that someone reported him. He was an idiot.
