Are you or do you know a pediatric oncology nurse?

I've applied for nursing school, and am taking my HESI in March. I'm going to get a bachelors as an RN. But I want to specialize in pediatric oncology and don't know where to start with that. I've googled stuff, but I want peoples real experiences. How do I specialize in pediatric onocology?

Answer

You just need to get a job at a pediatric hospital on an oncology unit after graduation. Even then, some specialty units like that won't hire new graduates, so you might have to start somewhere else. You don't specialize during school. In my nursing school, we could request where to be for our final capstone, but that is the most you can do. It's important to get a rounded nursing education.
