Implantation bleeding

Can implantation bleeding be like a period? I was 2 days late on period, so I took test and it was negative. The next day I started bleeding, not nearly as heavy as usual though. And it wouldn't leak out, only when I went to the bathroom it came out, but I was kind of a lot and bright red. So I figured it was just my period, but since then I've been waking up feel nauseous. Could that have been implantation bleeding, should I retest?
