Varicocelectomy

Crescent
Hi, I am almost 34, my husband 32. We have been TTC since October 2015 with no success. Husband had a semen analysis in September with low motility and morphology. He tried supplements but his test a couple weeks ago bore the same result. He has a varicocele on his left testicle, and the urologist recommended a varicocelectomy. We have read that they don't always work but it seems pointless to go straight to IUI. Has anyone else been through this and have advice? Should we get a second opinion from a fertility specialist?
Also, progesterone testing indicated that I ovulate. I don't have any other issues like endometriosis or PCOS, and my periods are pretty regular. I'm just wondering if there is anything else I can do to make sure I also don't have fertility problems in addition. Any tests I can have done?
Thanks!
