Mexican but wearing a Lehnga to prom?

So I'm full mexican and my boyfriend is Indian (been together for over a year now). During christmas break he went to india and got a lehnga made for me, he took my measurements and everything. It's so beautiful and i thought i could surprise him by wearing it to prom. I know him and his parents would love it and i'm confident in wearing it because I know I'm not trying to culture appropriate or anything. I'm just appreciating what he got made for me and his culture in a way. But I am kind of scared of what people would say about me? What are your thoughts? Should i wear it, should i not? I don't want other people to get offended or anything. Please don't attack me if you don't think it's okay, just simply state i shouldn't wear it. (For those of you that don't know what a lengha is here)

A lot of people are worried at dress code for prom. We don't have one, It's just don't show your boobs and butt. We don't really need a dress code because no one really gets that risqué with prom dresses since i go to a charter school. They don't consider midriff risqué for prom either. Also i've checked with my school and they said the dress is fine.

Being Indian, I can see both sides.

You could wear it if he wears traditional Indian garb as well, so the both of you match. I love traditional Indian wear with the jewelry and everything....

However, I feel like you both can't go wrong with a gown and tux. There will likely be a ton of weddings this summer where you can wear the lehenga and fit right in.

Your call though, you only do this once :)

Wear it! He got it for you so I can't think of a better place and time to wear it!

I think it's super cute but you would definitely have to wear the "odhni" that came with it to cover midsection area because that's how the lengha is supposed to be worn.  I've know people to wear Indian outfits to prom and it looks great. Your bf can wear a tux it will look fine.

Beautiful, but it would NOT have been allowed at my prom.  I'd check with your school first to make sure its ok, vs having then turn you away at the door.
