PAP smear?" /> I am 19. Going to be 20 this year and my dad raised me. So I was never informed about girl problems and I don't really know how things work in the girl world. I've heard that you should get Pap smears regularly. But when is that?

You don't need to have a pap until you either turn 21 or become sexually active, whichever comes first.

I work in primary care and do well women exams. Cervical cancer screening recommendations start at the age of 21, regardless of sexual activity or need for birth control. This may be changed if their is a strong family history of cervical cancer. If you are 21, and not sexually active I tell my patients it is okay to wait until you are to get your pap done (because it will be very uncomfortable). It's best to talk to your provider and see what recommendations they have, because each practice and provider practices differently. I am still a big pusher for the HPV vaccination for both girls and boys in adolescence, and girls until you are 26 you can get updated on the series. I honestly never had one done until I got pregnant at 20. I've been sexually active an on bc since I was 14. Doctors kept telling my mom I didn't need one till 21. I'm 21 now an still pregnant so idk when I'll get another one. Just talk to your doctor to find out for sure

Other.. you get a pap every year starting in early high school. Usually when you start having sex but if you have bad family history,  I would start asap.

I'm 21 and my dr didn't want me to get one until last year she told me when I was 18 that we'd wait until I was 21. Turned out fine nbd. A bit uncomfortable (not painful) and my dr couldn't do it so instead this 70 year old man dr did it which was super awk but that's all besides the point 😂
