Anyone else a super tough IV stick?

I am a super hard IV stick. Usually the nurses argue with me that I have good veins and "they can get it" "they've been doing this for 20 years" blah blah blah. 😒 3-4 sticks later I'm royally frustrated from being stuck and my anxiety is through the roof and low and behold they have to have the anesthesiologist do my IV (on the first try mind you).

Well- I am already getting anxiety just thinking about my planned c-section and the nurses unsuccessfully sticking me over and over again...does anyone have any suggestions or things that have worked for them to not have to be stuck repeatedly for NOTHING.

The best tip I've ever seen was from a nurse who took care of my grandpa after an inpatient surgery (who has really difficult veins too).. have them get warm blankets and wrap around both arms before even trying, let it sit for a bit and then have them try to do the IV.  Seriously, any good nurse will be more than happy to oblige!  They don't want to cause you any more pain.

I had a rough time with getting a IV put in. The lady tried to put an IV in my right hand, down under my thumb and she hit a nerve in my hand and now it hurts to hold things for a while or even to touch my hand in certain spots. The pains are bad sometimes

From personal experience, it might be better to let your nurse look/try before you tell them you are a hard stick. For some nurses it messes with their psychy. They may get nervous because they feel youre setting the tone for failure. Try and hydrate before you go to the hospital so that your veins get plump ☺️. If for some reason the nurse cant get it on the first try then I would mention that you are a hard stick. Also, some hospitals train nurses in using ultrasound machines to start IVs.

Ugh me I've had them put my arm in hot bags to dialate my veins when I was in labor with my first , it didn't work a paramedic came in & I had no veins left on both arms she could get to my arms & hands were purple she was able to put it in my NECK oh my goodness the pain & then to top it off they accidentally broke my water & the contraction after that was agony & I yanked it out on accident 😭😭😭😭😭 then the anesthesiologist came in & I had to stay still while he put one on my foot 
When I fainted in this pregnancy I had one in my boob 
I always ask for the best & they get offended but in all reality I just don't wanna be poked 20 times because there pride is to good 😬 10 pokes later I have 5 nurses in my room making me do all types of stuff 😂

Have you had a nurse on staff give you a good stick? If so, get his/her name and ask for them personally. Get in touch with them and say you're the only one who can do this! Maybe they will override the others.

I only allow two try's! And then I make them go through the crease in my arm.

This just happened to me last weekend due to preterm labor, I now have 3 huge bruises on my arms. It was terrible.

lol.  An IV prick should be the least of your worries.  You'll be OK.  :)
