How long should you wait?

I started seeing and hanging out with a guy a couple weeks ago, last night we went out and things were getting steamy and I freaked because I didn't know if I was ready to have sex, I wanted to and im sure he did too, but I didn't know if it was too soon. How long should you be with someone before you have sex with them?

It depends on a lot of things, I know it sounds like a cliche but it's a bigger deal with some people than others. I waited to have sex until I was 24 and had my gut tell me he was the one I was always going to be with. But, I'm just not the personality who wants a quickie. Everyone has to do what's right for them. The time is right if: there's no pressure, he cares about your safety, you're doing it because you want to, and you are safe about it.
