Is it okay to supplement with formula while out?

Would it be ok if I supplemented with formula just while I'm in public? I want to EBF for at least 6 weeks, so no pumping. But if I need to go in public I really don't want to BF around people. I've been sexually assaulted in the past and I would personally feel too exposed and scared to do so..but I don't know if it's okay to use formula and breastfeed.

I would think it would be better to pump. I guess I don't understand why you would rather give your baby formula than pump.

The idea of exclusively breast feeding (and not pumping) is due to NOT introducing the bottle.  So if THAT is the issue, you can pump, which will also help provide some relief if not feeding or missing a regular feed.
  
Now... if you are uncomfortable pumping (for whatever reason), then formula should be okay.  DO let your pediatrician know that you are supplementing while in public, why, and the frequency.  Theory is that the taste could cause some issues with baby either taking a bottle or breast feeding, so just be aware of that.
 
Do what is best for you and the baby momma.  Also note that you may consult with a lactation consultant about this as well.  ☺

If your want exlcusevly breastfeed why don't you just pump and give her that when you are out. Your baby will be getting the bottle anyways and will still be getting the nutrients. But you could also formula feed. Just an idea. I sometimes pump but I find that she sometimes won't take it from me so I will end up having to feed her.

You can pump and store the milk and bottle feed her that while you're out or you could supplement with formula. Your baby, your call! You have to do what's right for you guys.

You can do whatever you like! That being said, supplementing with formula is by definition not exclusively breast feeding. So it EBF is your goal, the formula will not support that goal. But that's ok! It's not bad to make compromises!

I would just pump and give it to her but I exclusively pumped and have pumped pretty much everywhere in public.  They make a cover that goes over your car seat and in the shopping cart but is also a nursing cover. It covers really well!  Much better than the traditional ines.

Yes you can,  the only issue is if it's your regular feeding time you could feel engorged if you don't express the milk somehow. But if you're not out for long you can then pump once you get home.
