If the child is able to pay his/her own phone bill, then he/she must clearly have a job. So there for, I don't think the parent should be entitled to take it away. They pay for it!

No, I don't care if I live under their roof or if they pay my rent and my bills. If I paid for something with the money I worked for, it's mine and only mine. You have no right to take away something that does not belong to you, whether you're a parent or not.

I don't think parents should be allowed to take away things that their children have bought with their own money unless it is obviously harmful to them (like drugs and alcohol etc.) However, there is a law in the united states that basically says if a child is under age 18 and living with their parents (or a guardian) they are allowed to take it away

If the child is however living under the parents roof then it is then the parent can take it away. They do provide you with a roof over your head, a bed, food, etc. Follow their rules. Sorry but this is just how I was raised.
