Gift Ideas?

Question

So, my husband's cousin and her wife are adopting a baby girl and they are having a shower soon.
 
What sorts of things can I get them? The baby will be about 2/3 months old when they get her officially.
 
I'm not too sure on clothes, as I don't think they'll like any of the stuff I like for girls and I don't want to get stuff that they'll return.

Diapers are definitely a great gift! I'd recommend buying larger sizes (3-5) because people typically buy smaller sizes. Go with either Honest, Huggies, or Pampers and include a gift receipt in case they want to swap out sizes or brands. Wipes are great gifts also! They can be used on baby for changing, on messy hands, or even on surfaces. And if they dry up, they can just add a little water and they're good as new! Many parents like sensitive wipes.

If you do end up buying clothing, parents can never have too many onesies and socks! Once again, I'd recommend buying larger (6, 9, or 12 months for the onesies and 6+ months for the socks) if you don't know how large the baby is. They grow fast and it's typical for them to wear sizes larger than their age.

Do you know what type of bottles they'll be using? Mosy bottle brands have starter gift sets with 4 or 6 bottles, multiple nipple flows, and accessories. They can range from $40-$100. You could always make a feeding gift set for them! Get some bowls, spoons, forks, plates, bibs, mats, and teething toys. The user who recommended the bath set is right also. Psrents typically use that stuff.

A gift also depends on how much you want to spend. Diapers and essentials clothing aren't too expensive depending on where you buy them (Walmart has cheap stuff and diapers can be cheaper if you buy smaller counts and use Manufacturer coupons). If you want to spend more, ask if they already have an infant car seat and bases or a convertable car seat. If not, they'll definitely need one!

Gift cards are a great option, too. A gift card to Walmart, Target, or Babies R Us can go towards furniture or bedding they might have picked out, gear (high chair, carseat, stroller) or can be saved for larger sizes of clothing or even formula and baby food.

I was gonna suggest a basket full of breastfeeding related items, but since it's an adoption obviously that won't work. You should do a bath tub full of towels, wash cloths, soap, calming bedtime lotion, maybe something with a temperature reader on it. I know at my shower I wish I had gotten more practical things as opposed to cute clothes (which I still appreciated).

well first, they can never have tooo many diapers!! haha. maybe some cute girly headbands and socks? it's not really clothes! but you can never go wrong with the necessaties

I always try to get stuff they will actually use, and things I never seemed to have enough of, like diapers, wipes, baby wash cloths, baby towels, burp cloths, bibs, teether toys, things like that. I have also given people that I want to spend a little more money on things like a boppy pillow (assuming they want one or don't have one yet) and a rock and play, and baby bath tub, since those were the things I used most with my son. I try to get people things I know I couldn't live without when my little guy was a newborn.
