When does life start?

Question

First off, I'm so excited I found a group of LDS women on here! I use the social part of Glow mainly for loss support, but it's so nice to find a group I can relate to that doesn't always revolve around loss 😊

I'm curious when you ladies think life starts. I've had 3 miscarriages and just consider them to be my children who have completed their mission in life and are now waiting on the other side. But when I really stop to think about it, I have to question it. I never saw the babies or a heart beat, and only knew was pregnant because of symptoms and pregnancy test results.

I rely heavily on the fact that I'll finally be able to hold each one of them one day. I guess I just want to make sure I don't get my hopes up, only to get to the other side and find those pregnancies were lost because there was no spirit ready to join our family.

Honestly... No one can say for sure. There hasn't been anything doctrinally/ said from prophets about when life actually starts/begins. Truth is we don't know. It's one of those questions that will probably be answered when we die. That being said I would keep up hope about it. I am figuring that is why no one else has answered because it's hard to know and they don't want to upset you or say something wrong. But if that's how you feel hold on to it. Maybe pray about it and seek an answer. You may not get one if its one of the mysteries of life but if it means that much to you Heavenly Father might answer. I have no idea but I hope this helped.

My friends and I had a deep discussion about this last night. And from our experiences with miscarriage, we felt that it's a case by case situation.

I think some miscarriages end before the spirit enters the body and that spirit gets a second chance later. And then there are some miscarriages that happen that does have the spirit and in that case that spirit has fulfilled their mission.

It's still all speculation but based off my experience and my friends' that's how I feel.

I heard something once about the things we hope in - our deepest desires - are the things The Lord wants to bless us with. So I think if you can hope it, he can and will grant you those deep and righteous desires. At least, that's what I held onto to get through my miscarriage this last year.

I agree that this question might never have a clear answer here on earth, but from what I've experienced, my baby is mine and has a distinct spirit, eve though he was only alive a couple of months. A mother knows.

I agree with previous poster. Nobody knows but I bet if you ask God with a sincere heart to know the answer to your question he will either tell you or comfort you :)
