If my doctor uses the spotlight when I deliver, can I have the lights in the room dimmed?

I hate hospital room lights. They're really bright and uncomfortable. I want my son to come into this world in a dim comfortable setting. Were you able to have a say in the lighting since they have a spotlight?

My hospital lets you indicate various preferences, including dimming the lights. They told us the spotlight was for getting you cleaned & stitched up properly after birth.

My room was dimmed, but I also started pushing at 11pm so I think it didn't help that it was pitch black outside. The only light I remember being on was the one directly above me, and the spotlight. All other lights were off, and would only come on if someone needed an item in that area of the room. My son came out squinting even with it dimmed, gotta remember it's so dark in there even a little bit of light is a lot for them. I would ask your doc beforehand so you can prepare yourself. ☺
